VANCOUVER ISLAND, British Columbia — Worldwide Digital Signage today announced the successful completion of an international demonstration of a digital signage-based silent alert system designed for mission-critical school communications. During the live test, a simulated active-shooter alert was triggered remotely and displayed on connected screens in Canada and the Philippines nearly simultaneously.

The demonstration showed how an authorized user can create an emergency alert, select connected signs across an account, distribute the message, and then cancel the alert as conditions change. When the alert was cancelled, the displays returned to a dashboard that could support post-emergency information and response communications.

The test also demonstrated flexible presentation across different screen orientations, with a landscape display in Canada and a portrait display in the Philippines responding to the same alert. The system is designed to support integration with established school safety protocols and AI-enabled workflows, subject to each deployment’s configuration and requirements.

Supporting faster, more consistent school communications

Digital signage can extend beyond routine announcements to help schools communicate discreetly and consistently during urgent situations. A centrally managed system can provide clear visual instructions without relying solely on audible announcements, helping administrators reach classrooms and common areas through displays already in use.

WWDS is calling for broader awareness of silent alert capabilities among schools, public officials, safety organizations, and sign companies. The organization also intends to explore donation-supported or freeware access models that could reduce adoption barriers for schools. Details of any access program, including eligibility, implementation, training, and support, will be announced if and when they are finalized.

The international demonstration is an initial showcase, not a substitute for school emergency planning, training, local requirements, or coordination with public-safety authorities. Individual deployments should be tested and governed within each school’s approved emergency response procedures.
